Black Hawk College offers three excellent career-focused programs for nursing. Our nursing department is housed in the Health Sciences Center on the Quad-Cities Campus.

Department Highlights
Nursing Assistant (CNA)
This eight-week program is designed to instruct the student in learning how to assist the nurse in direct patient care. It is also available at the Community Education Center in Kewanee.
Practical Nursing (LPN)
The Practical Nursing (LPN) program is designed to prepare students for direct patient care and perform skilled tasks under the direction of a doctor or registered nurse. LPNs work in hospitals, nursing homes, physician offices, clinics and community agencies. The PN program is approved by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation.

Associate Degree Nursing (RN)
The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program is designed to prepare nurses who, as beginning practitioners, are able to give quality nursing care to patients and function as members of nursing and health teams. Upon completion of the program, a graduate may be eligible to take the examination for licensure as a registered nurse. The program is approved by the Illinois Department of Finance and Professional Regulation and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

If you plan to go right into the workforce after graduation, you can earn a certificate or Associate in Applied Science degree by enrolling in one of the career programs offered through the department.
